Happy Birthday, Allen! (Part 1 of 2)
At FiftyThree we like to live and work on the edge: Inventing, innovating, crafting, refining. But we also honor traditions, like Shake Shack Thursdays. (Last time we checked, “Health Fridays” had yet to kick in.)
One of our favorite traditions is asking resident designer Allen Lau to create a sketch for each team members’ birthday. It started with an impromptu cartoon of our co-founder Julian last August and it’s been a cherished tradition ever since – one that we all look forward to (What will Allen make next!?) even when it’s not our own big day.
Today is Allen’s birthday.
We considered a couple ways to get a birthday sketch made, including hiring a professional to do it. We wanted to make Allen smile even though some of us were convinced that our (lack of) drawing skills would only make him cry. In the end, we decided as a team to just do it ourselves and everyone made a sketch.
As we’ve all been told at one point in our lives: “It’s the thought that counts.” Here’s proof that we think Allen is awesome and that, at FiftyThree, we’re surrounded by some of the most funny, thoughtful and talented people we’ve ever worked with.
You’re the best, Allen. Have a happy birthday!
