Snowy Egret Studies by David Rankin

At FiftyThree, we love meeting creators from around the world who have adopted Paper in their creative process.

Wildlife artist David Rankin has worked with watercolors for nearly three decades, making a name for himself and his particular style of drawing animal subjects in their natural habitats. He marveled at the ease of sharing from Paper: “Until recently, it was only my wife and maybe a neighbor who would see [my unpublished sketches]. Now [with Paper] I can share what I’m working on without scanning, editing, and printing it. It’s like bringing your painting to the local mall and putting it up in the middle of it.”

Here, he shows the progression of a snowy egret in three stages, pointing out that he could have stopped at any of the three and been happy with the results.

As always, we invite you to enjoy the details along with the big picture. Visit David Rankin on Facebook to view his rich collection of wildlife sketches created on Paper.

For the launch of Paper Stacks, our new Tumblr theme developed in collaboration with ALLDAYEVERYDAY, we asked a few of our favorite Paper creators to help us ring in the occasion. Here’s what they came up with.

Try Paper Stacks for free, or get the fully customizable pro version. Enjoy, and have a great weekend!

    #PAPERPROMPTS Home Sweet Home

Our team has had its fair share of moving recently. A few of us moved from Seattle to New York City; one team member settled in Brooklyn by way of Uruguay; and, just last week, FiftyThree moved out of our CEO Georg Petschnigg’s one-bedroom apartment to a dedicated workspace. Sure, it’s only one floor above in the same building, but it’s a move — and an adjustment — nonetheless.

Inspired by the spaces we live and work in, this week’s Paper Prompt is “home sweet home.” Base your creation on any aspect of home: real or imaginary, from floor plans to furniture sketches to patterns on wallpaper to rooms that could only exist in another time or place.

Be sure to include the tag #PAPERPROMPTS so we can search for your submission. We’ll feature some of our favorite spaces on Monday.

Did you miss the prompt from last week? Take a look at what happens when creators only use Pen on Paper.

    Here come the GIFs!
Last week, we introduced key features Move and Duplicate in our new app update, making it possible to duplicate sketches, create templates for layouts, wireframes, and storyboards, to iterate on ideas… and to make GIFs. We love seeing the creative ways you guys use Paper. If you post any work online that you’re proud of, do share it with us using the tag #madewithpaper on Twitter and Tumblr.
Never stop creating.
